How I Can Support Your Child

“The first and foremost instinct of humans is neither sex nor aggression. It is to seek contact and comforting connection.”

~ Sue Johnson, Love Sense: The Revolutionary New Science of Romantic Relationships

My Process with High Conflict

Every family is different. We all hope for the best when welcoming a child, yet sometimes things change.

Why choose Dr. Berman:

I am confident when it comes to working with High Conflict families. I know the Laws and Ethics of Minor’s consent, therapy, etc. like the back of my hand. I am very comfortable advocating for the well-being of the child. I take what parents/caregivers tell me with a grain of salt: the truthkeeper is the child.

When I work with High-Conflict, I want to be clear about how I support your child. I require all custody documents to be sent prior to the parent intake so that I can make sure of the legal aspects on my part.

I keep all things as equitable as possible. I will have an initial 15-20 minute consult with each parent separately. If we all decide to move forward with sessions, then I will schedule an intake session with each parent/guardian separately. This will allow me to understand each perspective of the situation while being able to focus on the welfare of your child. Once I meet with both parents, then I have my first session with the child.

Once I start sessions with your child, you can expect minimal contact from me in order to reinforce the confidentiality I have with your child. If possible, I will have parent check-ins every so often because, regardless, you probably see your child more than I do. This is family dependent.

My priority is supporting your child.
